Nearly 80% of people have back pain, including lower back pain, at some point or another during their life. Since this is a problem which affects nearly everyone, it is important to know what the causes of lower back pain are. It’s important to understand how you can keep severe lower back pain at bay by controlling these factors.

Causes of Lower Back Pain

As we age, we lose a lot of our body’s natural muscle tone and elasticity. We also tend to lose bone strength as we age. Loss of fluid results in the discs in your spine becoming less flexible. This means that they do a less effective job of protecting the vertebrae. Just the fact of getting older can play a part in experiencing lower back pain.

A strain, sprain or spasm in your muscles or ligaments can result in the rupture of a spinal disc. This leads to increased pressure on your spinal cord nerves. Our back lets us know about this with the neural signals we know as pain. What are the causes of these strains, sprains and spasms? Frequently, this type of injury is caused by attempting to lift heavy objects or overstretching the muscles.

Lower back pain can also be caused by diseases like osteoporosis and arthritis. Other causes include disc or joint irritation, viral infections, or spinal abnormalities.

Lifestyle factors can also be contributors to lower back pain. This includes smoking, being overweight, pregnancy, stress, bad posture and being in poor shape. Lower back pain and pain in the hips often appear together, increasing your discomfort. Another cause of lower back pain can be scar tissue from old injuries – this can also lead to further, more critical injuries.

When to Worry About Lower Back Pain

You should take your lower back pain seriously if it comes along with other symptoms. Watch out for weakness in the muscles, particularly in the legs, loss of bowel or bladder control, fever or coughing. If your lower back pain is accompanied by these symptoms, contact your physician immediately. They could point to a deeper problem such as a pinched nerve. If you suffer from diabetes, your back pain might be related to neuropathy.

Avoiding Lower Back Pain

By paying attention to proper back pain management techniques, most lower back pain can be avoided. Recurring lower back pain can usually be traced to poor posture. You can work on correcting this. Try exercises to build up strength in your lower back, stand up straight, and don’t forget to use your legs to lift objects instead of your back. Be certain that you pay attention to workplace ergonomics while on the job. This will greatly impact your ability to prevent lower back pain.

Color contacts are a great way to sharpen and enhance the look of your eyes. Unlike traditional contacts, colored lenses are a great way to show off your contacts, with colors that are completely fun. Wearing color contacts are all about having some fun every once in a while.

All around the world, thousands and thousands of people wear colored lenses. Contact lenses themselves are the best alternative to glasses, with color contacts lenses being the next best thing. Colors add flair and personality to contact lenses, giving people the chance to be different. When you add color to your lenses – you are telling the world that you are different.

You can always find colored lenses that match what you are looking for no matter what color interests you. There are hundreds of different styles available, from kids to adults. You’ll also have several different manufacturers to choose from as well, which makes it easier than ever to get a pair of colored lenses that you can depend on.

Even though colored lenses are popular, there are several people who feel as if they will damage the eyes. Non prescription colored contacts work exactly the same as traditional contacts, and won’t damage your eyes as long as you clean them and take care of them. There shouldn’t be much worry if the contacts are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

Each and every colored contact has the color or design coded on the contact itself. When you wear a pair of these lenses, it is actually the color that has been coded into the contact that projects the colored image everyone sees when they look in your eyes. The color of the contact shines through, making it appear that your eyes are indeed the exact same color as your contacts.

Colored contacts work the same as other types of contacts. Select the color of the contacts that you choose using your prescription. If you are ordering them online, you’ll find hundreds and hundreds of different colors and images. There are more colors and selections available online – making it the best way to invest in your contact lenses.

A nice pair of “leopard looking” lenses will add some flair if you looking for something different. They will give you the vision you need, along with different colored “eyes” that can really mess with someone’s head. Kids love them as well, as they give them the chance to express themselves. From kids to adults – colored contact lenses are the ideal way to be different – and improve your vision at the same time.

I am starting to think that second to the miracle weight loss pill scam are the miracle acne treatment scams. Every other day there is a new product in the market that promises to help teenagers eliminate acne in a few days. Over the years I have seen crazy treatments hailed as modern miracles such as electrically zapping pimples to destroy them at their very root. Of course, there are also an unlimited number of facial scrubs and soaps that promise to cure a teenager’s acne in just a few days.

None of these treatments really work and the few that might help a bit are only of some use to the people with the most mild cases of acne.

People need to accept that acne is a fact of life and all generations have to deal with it. There are some cures for severe cases which involve having to see a doctor first. These treatments require that a person takes medication that can have severe side effects and so are ofter a last resort rather than a first choice; and usually doctors will not prescribe for none but the most severe cases.

Teenagers, stop worrying about skin deep issues and enjoy your youth. You’ll regret when it’s gone.

<img src="/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/obesity.jpg" alt="obese man" title="obese man" width="235" height="118" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1078"align="left" />Sometimes, it feels like there is a new diet pill introduced to the market every week. Sure, obesity is a huge problem in North America and other parts of the world but after years of companies selling miracle diet pills that can help people lose weight with no exercise and failing, why are people still buying them?

Case in point, the new Fastin diet pills that make the same promises we have all heard about over and over again. Lose weight with no exercise using this miracle pill with its new thermogenic breakthrough formula that causes no side effects. As per usual, the pill’s effectiveness is supported by clinical trials. Not! Laboratory tested is not the same as a clinical trial and, in fact, it is probably meaningless. But people will buy this and every other diet pill that will hit the market sooner or later and still not lose weight.

I have said this over and over again and I will repeat it once more. If you want to lose weight there is only one way to do it and it involves a proper diet and exercise. Go talk to your doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to start an exercise program. Then talk to a personal trainer who will design an exercise program tailored to your physique and goals. Also talk with a dietitian who will design a proper diet that will help you drop those extra pounds without hurting your body. This is the only healthy and sustainable (as in long-term) way to lose weight.

Get off your ass America and exercise!

I am seating here looking at my gut and reading a Lipofuze review (another miracle, fat-busting, diet pill) felling miserable about myself and the extra weight I gained the last few months. It was my goal about 4 months ago to get back in shape but with all the stress from work and a number of events that made a mess of my personal life, I totally missed my weight loss target for the spring of 2009.

Now, all I can do is feel depressed about the extra few inches added to my midsection and my inability to go up the stairs at work without losing my breath in the process. It is really time to do something about that before it is truly too later. I opened an account at fitday.com to keep track of the calories I consume and the amount of calories that I burn exercising. The site is nice because it keeps track of my stats over long periods of time along with nice goal graphs that if anything can be motivating. I also picked up a bathroom scale to measure my weight every day to make sure that I don’t lose sight of my targets but also to monitor my weekly progress.

I will be hitting the gym 5 days a week. I am busy at work and the stress is not going to go away but I will probably be better off exercising in the evening that staying at home and eating junk food. I definitely won’t be using any diet or weight loss pills. My goal is to reach my target of 165 lbs in 4 months time which means that I have to shed 1 lbs per week. A reasonably target that according to most articles that I have read is not going to compromise my health.

So, here we go!

I’m all for the significance of the Cosmos and the vast insignificance of humans and other living things on this planet but sometimes the little things that I should not care about seriously piss me off. Let me explain.

Recently, as in about a year ago, I moved to Sydney Australia. Not a bad looking city even though some mountains in the background would certainly help make the city look a bit nicer. Sydney harbor is certainly one of the nicest natural harbors I have ever seen. And the weather is very nice with mild winters and hot summers encouraging the locals and visitors to hit the local beaches every weekend. But the Sun is also the one thing in Sydney that seriously annoys me.

It is unbelievable how easily the Sun burns your skin in the summer. Even when applying a thick layer of sunblock there is little escape from the Sun’s rays. I guess it doesn’t help that the ozone layer is mostly depleted in the Southern hemisphere not filtering the dangerous UV rays from reaching the Earth’s surface. And it really gets annoying when temperatures reach and surpass 30 degrees Celsius above zero and you can’t go to the beach because of the sunburn you inherited the last time you were there.

Not to mention of course that all that exposure to UV radiation is not good for your skin long term and can cause skin cancer. And your average skin care products don’t do much to protect you from such nasty consequences although often can relieve some of the short term effects of sunburns.

I guess at the end of the day there is no such thing as a free lunch. You can either live in Canada and freeze to death for most of the year or live in Australia and fry your skin or die a horrible death in the hands of skin cancer. But I had to write about it because I now feel so much better about the whole situation.

I hate the little buggers cruising around my unit. Living in Australia, I have to deal with all kinds of insects on a daily basis. Moths are only the most recent of annoyances to ruin my days.

So, I decided to get rid of them using moth traps by Catchmaster. Don’t be fooled! Most moth traps are completely useless and odds are that you are just wasting your money. Not these neat little devices by Catchmaster which do a great job in trapping moths. The trap works by attracting male moths using sex pheromones; if there is anything the males of any species are attracted too is sex so you know this is a good product. How they were able to synthesize moth sex pheromone is beyond me but I bet some stereotypical scientist spent lots of time buried in books in some dark laboratory to make it work. And it so works. Within a few days, I had my moth problem solved. Now, I only have to figure out ways to get rid of all the other bugs that somehow make their way into my unit.

I always find that I am the most productive in the morning 4-5 hours after waking up. After that, my productivity continuously drops until towards the end of the day, I can get nothing useful done. This is true for most people I have talked with and I am willing to bet that it is true for you as well. The trick to being productive is then to get a good night’s sleep. Here are a few ways to maximizing your chances of sleeping well tonight.

First, make sure that you go to bed early and that you always go to bed at a regular time. Make sure to avoid eating a very late dinner especially within a couple of hours of going to bed. I find it impossible to sleep after eating a heavy dinner. Also, stay away from any caffeinated drinks including coffee, coke, and tea. In fact, I will never drink a coffee past 3:00pm on any given day or I can’t get myself to fall asleep before midnight.

Exercising late in the evening might also help. Some people claim that exercising in the evening helps them sleep better. I find that exercising in the evening gets me all excited which keeps me up longer at night. You might have to trial this to figure out what best works for you.

Lastly, there is no denying that you can only sleep well on a comfortable bed. It is very difficult to find a mattress that works well for you and once found, most people will stay faithful to their brand until death due them apart. The sleep number bed system is specifically designed to help anyone find the most comfortable mattress. Taking into account a person’s height, weight, body shape, and sleep position, a number between 0 and 100 determines the correct sleep number bed settings. These beds tend to cost a bit more than your average bed but most people agree that the benefits of a good night’s sleep far outweigh the cost of this bed.

So, there you have it. Three tips for sleeping comfortable and waking up well rested, refreshed, and ready to tackle all of life’s hardest problems for another day.

Giving the miracle of life is probably the most amazing act in the universe. However, all sorts of questions arise now that you are pregnant. Now more than ever it is important to eat good foods for you and your baby. Not eating well during your pregnancy can increase your risk of complications. Learning what to eat during pregnancy has never been easier than it is now. You also have to eat carefully not only for your baby but also for yourself. Let’s take a look at some basic rules for eating healthy when pregnant.

First, remember that once you hit the second trimester, good nutrition during pregnancy requires that you eat about 300 more calories a day.Getting enough calories without overdoing it is important, as both you and your baby need the energy. You need extra calories, but that doesn’t mean hijacking the donut truck. After all, it is only 300 calories that your are getting. A glass of milk or one banana equals 100 calories and a slice of whole wheat bread, and ounce of cheese and a half of cup of grapes equal 200 calories. See how much more you are eating than if you decide to eat a donut instead.

Your baby will be better off if you eat at least 3 servings of protein every day. Protein contains amino acid which is one of the most important building block for your baby’s tissue. Protein is very easy to come by and your options are endless. To get enough calcium, you can drink 3 glasses of milk, 2 cups of yogurt and 3 ounces of cheese.

Next, you need at least four servings of calcium every day.Think of your baby’s bones growing as you consume calcium, but don’t forget, you are protecting your bones too. There are lots of tasty foods that supply calcium, such as milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream.

Aim for at least three servings of vitamin C. Your body does not store vitamin C so you need a fresh supply of it every day. You can eat fruit or almost any vegetable to get your vitamin C in. You also want to make sure you get three to four servings of green leafy and yellow vegetables and fruits. Most of these veggies and fruits will also count toward your vitamin C intake, so that is double the benefit.

One or two more servings of other fruits and vegetables will serve you well, giving you other nutrients and important fiber.Eat more apples, bananas or even onions to get those nutrients. Eat six or more servings of whole grains and legumes. These are filled with vitamins E and B and they help you battle constipation. Try eating brown rice, whole wheat breads and even air popped corn to get your servings of whole grains and legumes in.

Be sure to get enough iron, as it is one of the most important nutrients for you and your developing baby.Iron demand will be at it’s greatest when you are pregnant, so be sure to get enough in your diet.Be sure you are vigilant about this. Not enough iron could lead to anemia so you want to make sure you are getting enough iron.It is also not uncommon for physicians to prescribe iron supplements to pregnant women, just to be sure they are getting enough.

A fit pregnancy gives your baby the best chance for healthy development. And while it is always a good idea to eat well every day, when you are pregnant it is essential that you eat well every day.

In the midst of all the alternative medicine treatments that you’ve heard about recently, you may have noticed aromatherapy mentioned a few times. Many dismiss the idea of using scents to bring medical results as quackery, and that’s understandable in many ways. There’s quite a bit of information about aromatherapy that comes from people who speak about it based on their spiritual beliefs and a lack of information that comes from detailed medical studies. As a medical treatment in Western nations, it’s still a little new, so there’s still much to learn about it. Let’s explore some of the ways that aromatherapy does help people so you know how to better incorporate it into your life.

As A Medical Practice

The basis of aromatherapy comes from the use of essential oils, which are extracted from plants using distilling processes, resulting in concentrated liquids that are often very fragrant. In France, where aromatherapy is used in concert with traditional medical practices, but it’s for the antiseptic properties of the essential oils more than anything. In France, essential oils are occasionally prescribed and administered by a physician to target harmful organisms that might lead to bacterial, viral, or fungal infections.

If you’re wondering where the “aroma” part of aromatherapy comes in, there are traditional medical practices in the United States in which the scents of various compounds result in an alleviation of symptoms of illness. The one most people are familiar with is the use of things such as Vicks VapoRub or Halls cough drops to help drain clogged sinuses and throats. Aromatic chemicals such as menthol and eucalyptus bring an alleviation of those symptoms, which are often associated with colds.

As Stress Therapy

When you begin to venture out of such applications and begin to talk about alleviating stress with aromatherapy, then you start to get into ideas that come less from observed scientific evidence than from everyday theories. Aromatherapy in many instances is suggested as a way to reduce symptoms of stress in people and for other effects. For instance, basil oil is quite frequently suggested to ease the effects of depression and to help you to concentrate, while lavender is used for relaxation.

While many of these supposed effects aren’t determined through scientific study, it’s easy enough to notice that euphoric scents can make people feel cheerier. With that in mind, it wouldn’t hurt to practice a little aromatherapy at home; at best, it really will help and at worst, you still end up surrounded by nice scents. So, whether you’re using it for medical purposes or just to relax, aromatherapy offers something for you.
