I think I finally figured out why people often start going to the gym with much enthusiasm but often give up after just a few weeks. The average North American is conditioned from a young age to expect everything done in the shortest time possible. It is the fast-food life that has become so entrenched in North Americans.

Our popular media constantly bombards us with the same message. Get food fast. You can buy anything with a phone call and have it delivered to your doorstep in a few hours time. Make millions of dollars every year working only a couple of hours every day. Solve your relationship problems with a phone call to Dr. Phil. Lose all the extra pounds by working out 5 minutes every day. The best weight loss pills promise that you will rid of 10s of pounds in the first week and then some.

People transfer this need for a quick result to their fitness efforts. They buy a gym membership and start working out thinking that they will go from overweight to magazine model in just a couple of weeks. When they realize that it actually takes years of continuous training and proper diet to achieve such a result, they become disappointed and they give up. They turn to the next miracle pill to save the day (which it never does.)

In conclusion, people need to “get real”. Turn off your TV and stop buying the sleazy magazines. Realize that to achieve an important goal in life takes time and effort. Now get back to the gym and start lifting those dumb bells.

If you are a fitness buff you probably already know about Human Growth Hormone (HGH) supplements. Many will tell you that taking hgh supplements will help you reverse the aging process, increase your metabolism, and increase your muscle mass. Who wouldn’t want that? There are a myriad of HGH supplements in the market, e.g., Secratatropin, Lifessence HGH+, UltraMax, etc. But are these safe to use?

Since HGH naturally occurs in the body then chances are that there is nothing wrong with having your body produce a bit more on your command. Human growth hormone productions peaks during puberty and decreases steadily as we grow older. This is the main reason why so many supplements are advertised to older men and women who can potentially reverse the signs of aging by increasing their intake of HGH. But are there any side effects?

Some negative side effects do exist. For example, adding to your naturally occurring production of this hormone can cause joint swelling, joint pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and an increased risk of diabetes. In other words, nothing is really free.

Would I use this supplement?

Actually no. I have said many times that I think exercise and proper diet are the best methods to achieve a healthy weight and body. Sure, reversing the process of aging sounds nice but why would I want to do that? Getting older is part of life and something very natural. I want to keep it that way.

A comfortable, “pro body shoe” is on the market. Actually, MBT brand sandals prefers to call them the “Anti-shoe.” Why the Anti-Shoe? Because the human body was not originally designed to wear sneakers. Shoes have flattened the terrain and unknowingly cause the human race to struggle with back, knee and hip problems due to ineffective and poorly designed shoes.

The human foot was designed to walk on unstable ground. These were shoes inspired by the Masai Tribe of Africa. This tribe emulates a regal posture and limited back and joint pain, all attributed to consistently walking on uneven surfaces. Engineers at MBT shoes took this basic concept and turned it into Masai Barefoot Technology, i.e. MBT Shoes. These shoes then become the Anti-Shoe based on the premise that they are designed to recreate the feeling of standing barefoot on uneven ground.

All the pressure points a person hits, while walking barefoot, are simulated in the unique round sole MBT Shoe design. These shoes designed with a negative heel, actually work more muscle groups to a greater degree over better joint and back relief by building the surrounding muscles. In fact, with shoes from MBT, the buttock region is worked 9% more than regular shoes. The rear thigh muscle activity increases by 19%. The lower limbs receive 18% more activity all while reducing the stress on the knee joints by 19%. The result of casually working these muscles increases abdominal strength and in turn better posture.

MBT shoes also offer benefits for those whose job requires a significant percentage of time on their feet. The shoes work muscle groups while relieving joint pain and back stress. MBT shoes offers a variety of styles all featuring the unique MBT technology. Shoes range from sport shoes, casual wear, professional wear and even a select styles of boots. According to the MBT website, these shoes are best for walking, fitness walking and light jogging.

Many medical professionals use MBT shoes to accelerate recovery and relieve various types of foot, leg, and back pain ailments. For athletes, MBT shoes are used for endurance training, as well as prevention of injuries and recovery. Although the look of MBT Shoes are quite unconventional based on their regular shoe counterpart, the benefits these shoes offer far outweigh the concern of being, “unconventional.” Customers report having purchased a pair of MBT Shoes and “never looking back.” Fashion does not have to hurt.

Enough is enough! I can’t take it anymore. Every other day, there is a new method for weight loss that requires no effort and will turn anyone into a supermodel overnight. Obviously these scams continue to exist simply because people always fall for them.

Wake up America! There is no miracle weight loss secret. Stop reading pointless diet pill reviews and start doing the two simple things that guarantee to help you maintain a healthy weight. And yes, these two things require effort. Simply put, no pain no gain.

So, what are the two things?

First, you have to measure the amount of food you eat and simply avoid overeating. Use a small kitchen scale to measure how much food you cook. Don’t eat more than the recommended number of servings every day. Talk with a certified dietitian who can tell you how many calories and what type to eat every day. Don’t starve yourself because it does not work. And don’t cut any kind of food such as fat or carbohydrates entirely out of your diet. Eat everything in moderation and you will be fine.

Second, turn off the TV and get yourself out of the couch and into your local gym. You have to exercise if you want to lose weight. It is that simple. You exercise to burn excess calories stored as fat in your body. How hard is it to understand that if you burn more calories than you eat on a daily basis you will inevitably reduce your body fat. Period. Make sure to talk a a fitness instructor and maybe a physician before starting an exercise program, especially if you haven’t had any exercise for a long time. Your heart does not like going from zero to hero overnight. Take it easy at first and increase the intensity over time as you get in better shape.

There you have it folks. The two simple things you have to do in order to lose excess weight or maintain a healthy weight. Eat a balanced diet and exercise. It is that simple!

It is 2009 and this is the year that you are going to get in shape. It is your new year’s resolution and you can’t wait to make it happen. You have already purchased your gym membership (at a discount rate nonetheless) and you have your first appointment with a fitness instructor coming up tomorrow. Your physician has given you the go ahead to start an exercise program and you can’t wait to talk with a dietitian to get a hold of your new, slim fast, healthy diet.

You went out on Boxing Day and you bought a new set of exercise clothes and running shoes. It is only one more day before you start making use of them. Although you went out looking for good deals on your exercise equipment and gym membership, you didn’t stop yourself from spending money on a couple of extras that should keep you motivated while reaching your slimmer you goals in 2009.

You did not hesitate to spend a few hundred dollars for a state-of-the-art fitness watch. How could you resist when the salesperson outlined the many features of Polar watches? These new gadgets like the Polar G1 that you spent $400 on come with GPS sensors and keep track of a number of vital parameters are you exercise outdoors; you can get a record not only of the distance and speed at which you traveled but also estimates of your heart rate and calories burned. This training watch is a technological marvel.

And so, here you are. It is January 1st, 2009, and you less than 24 hours away from your first workout. Let this be the year that you go from an average, overweight couch potato to a Greed God or Goddess. Good luck to you!

I don’t know how (well actually I do but I will write about this another time) but I managed to put on some weight the last 6 months and it is finally starting to annoy me. I went out to play a bit of soccer with friends a few days ago and I was stunned by my total lack of fitness. It has been 3 months since the last I played soccer and I really didn’t expect it to be this bad but after just 5 minutes into the scrimmage and I could barely move.

Time for a reality check. A change in my lifestyle that has removed much of the exercise I was receiving in the past has diminished my level of fitness to levels I have not experienced in nearly 10 years. Added to that I have put on at least 15 pounds which means that I am probably about 20 pounds heavier than I should be at the moment. It is time to get my weight under control and time to get my fitness back.

I don’t plan to waste my time and money on diet pills or any other gimmick that promises results overnight. There is a gym in my neighborhood and after posting this I am heading over to buy a membership. I will also try to make an appointment with a fitness instructor to get on a proper diet and fitness plan in order to get back to my normal weight in a safe and healthy manner. It might take a few months before this happens but this is the best and only way for healthy weight loss.

Steroids have always received a bad reputation by the popular media and just about everyone else. Professional athletes are not allowed to use steroids to improve their performance during a game (not that has actually stopped many of them from using steroids.) The truth is that abusing steroids can negatively impact your health. That said, are there any legal steroids in the market today?

Halotest-25 is a legal steroid that promises large muscle gains in little time. Many athlete who have used it have only positive things to say about its performance. The supplement’s maker Powerlab Nutrition promises that the active compound in Halotest-25 does not aromatize to estrogen meaning that its usage has a low side effect profile. In general, if you do decide to use this or any other legal steroid, it would be a good idea to talk to a physician first; if you do use steroids then try them only for a short period of time to help you break through a plateau and never use them for extended periods of time.

It has been more than a month since the new year kicked-in and I bet that most of you made once again the new year’s resolution of losing some weight and improving your overall fitness. And why not? The question is after 6 weeks in the new year, are you still training and eating properly? I sure hope so. Let me tell you how you can improve your chances of reaching your fitness goals this year.

There is no big secret actually. Everyone knows that in order to get fit you have to follow a regime of careful exercise and nutrition. The former is easy since there is a gym practically everywhere (especially if you live in a city.) But how to keep up with your nutrition schedule for weight loss and muscle gain?

Why not try some supplements that are specifically designed to help you achieve your fitness goals. You don’t have to use anything that will harm your health and it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. In terms of the latter, you can find a good collection of nutritional supplements and muscle builders at discount prices over at Supplements.net. This easy to navigate website lists a large number of supplements that can help you in improving your fitness. For example, you can find a large selection of pre and post workout protein powders and other relevant supplements such as protein bars and meal replacements. They even have natural supplements for beauty and skin care. Better yet, any orders over $99 ship for free!

That said, I want to reiterate the fact that improved fitness and weight loss can be achieved with the combination of a proper exercise and proper nutrition program. Talk to a fitness instructor about the former and then visit Supplements.net to fulfill your nutritional requirements.

During resistance training, your goal is to move muscle, not weight. Therefore, you should approach each exercise with an entirely different thought process and use a completely different technique. You should attempt to focus solely on your body, on its position throughout the exercise, and on the muscles you are contracting. You should direct very little of your concentration on the wight, bar, or machine. By having different goals and mastering different techniques, you will obtain different results. The results you will experience are far superior to that of just being able to move more weight.

In other words, people do not learn how to push dumbbells, pull bars, or lift weights with resistance training. Instead, they learn how to position and stabilize their bodies as they control and focus on contracting muscles and moving bones.

By focusing more on the body than on the resistance, not only do people work the targeted muscles more efficiently, but they are also less likely to become injured. During most exercises, the muscles are learning to stabilize the body while in proper spinal alignment, which will help provide better posture.

Resistance training focusing on the entire body and paying particular attention to the body’s alignment, positions, and desired motion maximizes benefits while reducing the risk involved in each exercise.

However, if you just want to get an idea of your fitness level without the hassle and for a low cost, then a body fat scale is your best choice. A body fat scale uses bioelectrical impedance to estimate the lean to fat ratio in your body. It works by passing a 500 microamp current through your body from one foot to the other. Muscles tend to be 70% water while fat tissue has no water content and since water conducts electricity the current will pas through your body faster the leaner you are. It is essential that you are not dehydrated before stepping on a body fat scale because the results will show you fatter than you really are. In fact, the best time to take the test is right after you wake up in the morning and after drinking a glass of water. For men, a healthy body fat percentage is in the 18-24% range; fit men should be in the 12-17% range. Body fat scales are accurate to within 4% but if you want a more accurate test every now and then, consider paying for a Pinch Test also known as Calipers test) at your local gym.
