There is no denying the fact that we have done a real number on our planet the last 100 years. The more advanced nations are taking big steps forward towards reversing much of the damage done over the duration of the last century but the battle is not yet won. It is important that we continue our efforts to stop polluting our Earth. Something that we can all do to help our planet is to use more eco friendly products on our day to day lives.

Often, we only have to do small things that will have a huge impact on the environment. Here is a list of a few ways that you can help save the environment without reducing your quality of living.

Leave the car at home when your destination is within walking distance.

Take public transportation whenever possible such as when going to work.

Say goodbye to plastic bags; take advantage of reusable bags when going grocery shopping.

Change all the light bulbs in your house to the compact fluorescent kind. These use much less energy and last longer.

Try to compost more.

Use biodegradable cleaning products for all your daily needs.

Recycle all the aluminum, plastic, and paper that you buy. Recycling is far too easy to do these days that you practically have to go our of your way to avoid it; but why would you want to do that?

Save energy any other way possible. For example, look for affordable gadgets that can harness solar or wind energy to power electronic devices in your house. For example, the SolarGorilla is great for charging your laptop’s battery using solar power when you are on the road.

There is no doubt that there exist a myriad of different ways to make your lifestyle more eco friendly. Take a look around you and try to think of different ways that you can save energy or recycle more. Even if for now it all looks like is a lot of work for you, think of the benefits of preserving our planet not only for ourselves but also for our children.

The news is filled with discussions of current and future energy problems. Finding renewable sources of energy is important, and the publicity has made solar panels and power more available to the consumer. However, there are solar power costs that come with the systems. It is an environmentally friendly source of power that can be used in all inhabited areas. It is also a completely renewable source of energy, for as long as the sun persists an active source of light. Because of that, the costs are limited compared with the benefits, and are reducing all the time.

There are two basic types of solar energy that can be used by consumers — passive solar heating and passive solar energy. Passive solar heating is a great alternative for heating water and homes. The sun’s energy is used directly as heat instead of being converted to other energy types. Passive solar energy is a more complicated system of solar power that converts the heat into the exact power requirements of the site. There may be more solar power costs associated with this type of solar power.

The Costs of Solar Power Explained

The costs of a solar power system are very surprising to many consumers. Even with government rebates, initial investment can be high. There are costs associated with installing a system as well as purchasing all the necessary equipment. The most expensive equipment to be purchased is generally a solar power generator. This generator is what converts the rays collected by solar panels into energy that is usable by your home. While technological developments are lowering solar power costs, at present are still high.

Purchasing the correct generator for your home is an important step in the process of installing a solar system. When you are faced with the high initial price tag, remind yourself that this system will reduce or eliminate your electricity bills each month.Go through old bills to determine your average energy usage prior to making a purchase of a solar power system. Choosing the best quality generator will prevent you from having to supplement your solar power. With the current trend in energy costs, this can be a very expensive mistake. It may also reduce the resale value of your home versus having a system that covers all the electricity needs of the property.

Many areas give assistance, grants, and rebates for people who purchase solar systems for their homes. By reducing the solar power costs in this way, you may make a system more affordable. Make sure to check into and state or local offers before you purchase your system. Installing solar panels on your property is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment. The initial costs will be returned to you over time, as these panels will provide free electricity for years to come.Scale down your dependence on external power suppliers and create an energy-independent property for yourself.

The holidays are practically here and since Black Friday everyone has entered the race for buying gifts for those they know. Sad that the holidays are nothing more than an excuse to spend money but that is a story for another post. What I want to talk about briefly is the holiday home decorations and how wasteful they are.

If you take a drive around any suburban neighborhood in the US these days, you see all these houses decorated with outdoor lighting specifically for the holidays. The lights remain on all night and are essentially seen by almost none, especially in the late hours of the night and early hours of the morning. What is the point of these decorations? What do people hope to achieve wasting electricity in such a retarded way? These holiday home decorations do nothing but waste our planet’s resources over a tradition that is based on some fairytale. I beg you, home owners. Think of our planet before you decorate the outside of your house with a massive number of lights.

If you are interested in saving the environment you are not alone. While it is impossible to do everything on your own, there are some small tasks that can definitely help the environment on both a local and national level. To get started, you may want to become a volunteer with a local organization. Believe it or not, there are many groups that are devoted to helping the environment. All you have to do is find one in your area, ask how you become a volunteer, and then take things from there.

For instance, a group that picks up trash is a great one to join if you want to save the environment. After all, the litter that can be found all over the world has many negative effects on the way that we live. Even if you only volunteer for a few hours a month, any litter that you pick up will go a long way in benefiting the environment.

You should also look into groups and organizations that spend time planting trees. Of course, the area in which you live will dictate when you can do this. In most areas, groups that help the environment in this way operate during the summer months. That is when it is best to plant trees because it gives them the best chance of survival.

When you volunteer to help an organization you will not get paid. But with that being said, you will earn the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping the environment.

Having lived in Australia for a few months, I had to try some of the foods not available in North America. Last weekend, I had the chance to taste Kangaroo and Emu meat in a pizza that can be found at the Australian Hotel down at the historic part of Sydney known as The Rocks. Eating Kangaroo and Emu made me think for a second about how we treat animals and what humans have done in terms of causing the extinction of many.

Now, Kangaroo and Emu are not exotic animals by any stretch of the imagination (especially in Australia,) but there are many other species that fit the bill. And many of those have gone extinct. Some animals we hunted to death for food or for their skin. Other we exterminated for sport. Some, we continue to harvest for silly things such as ostrich feathers used for decorative table centerpieces.

Now, I agree to a large degree with the late comedian George Carlin who once said as part of his routine. It is a bit arrogant for humans to think that the planet (our Earth) really cares about the influence of humans on its ecosystem. Considering some 90% of all species that have lived on this planet since the beginning of life have now gone extinct, what is up with all the protests and such. Like George said, “I didn’t do it! The planet will go on existing long after humans have gone extinct themselves just like it has done for millions of years before we evolved.”

The problem is that I don’t want humans to go extinct. Unfortunately, if we do not product the planet’s ecosystem, we might inadvertently cause our own species to disappear. Sure, the planet will go on with business as usual, but what about us? So, take it easy and do your part in helping the environment whether this means recycling an aluminum can of soda or reducing carbon emissions by driving a couple of miles less every other day. Do it for us!

PS: The Kangaroo and Emu pizza was delicious if not a bit chewy.

When it comes to recycling, many people only think about items such as plastic bottles and aluminum cans. While it is important that these items are taken care of in the appropriate manner, there are other items that need just as much attention. This is where flexo solvent recycling comes into play.

Many companies use flexo solvents that can and should be recycled on a regular basis. The main reason that some do not get involved with this is that flexo solvent recycling can be a time consuming process. After all, it is more difficult to recycle solvents than basic aluminum cans. With that being said, flexo solvent recycling has become more and more popular over the past few years.

What are some of the more commonly recycled solvents? They include Solvit, Optisol, NutreClean, and Polysafe HF among many others. If your company currently uses any type of flexo solvent, it is important that you find out about your recycling program.

In most cases, a flexo solvent recycling company will take the proper steps and then return the solvent back to its place of origination. In other words, a company will have to pay for the service, but in the end they will receive new solvent. And the great part is that the recycled products can usually be had for a much cheaper price than buying new.

It is only a matter of time until flexo solvent recycling catches on amongst more companies. Hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later.

I may be a bit grumpy this morning because a leaky faucet kept me up all night but I think many will agree with me that low-flow shower heads suck. There is nothing worse than trying to shower the morning after a sleepless night only to suffer the torture of a low-flow shower head. I understand that there are environmental reasons, i.e., preserving our planet’s limited water supply, but we shouldn’t have to suffer every morning. The same applies for low-flow faucets and toilettes which cause more headaches than solve the problem at hand.

The way I see it, taking a shower with the low-flow shower head takes me longer than using a regular shower head. It takes longer because it is next to impossible to get the soap washed away when there is hardly any water hitting my body. It is possible that I am just the victim of a low quality showerhead and that taking the time to research and purchase a high quality one will solve my problems. True, but I am renting a place temporarily for a few weeks and there is not much I can do at the moment to improve this situation.
