I am one of those people who believe that cars are a waste of money for most people who do not need them for professional reasons. In general, I also feel that people and especially the young waste way too much money on upgrading their cars with different kits that are all show and no substance. That said, if you are a car owner then there is one upgrade that is worth making. I am talking about enhancing your car’s lighting using a high intensity discharge system replacing the old school halogen bulbs.

Why do I think that hid kits are a valuable upgrade?

The answer is rather straightforward. The Xenon-based HID provides much better illumination and lasts much longer that the Halogen system which is most commonly used in mid and low-range vehicles. I think just the fact that safety is improved by simply illuminating more of the road and better is good enough reason to spend the money on the upgrade. And I say this because I am an avid cyclist and it has been more than one times that cars almost hit me while riding at night. In all cases that the driver stopped to ask if I was okay, he basically admitted that he just didn’t see me even though I was wearing the proper gear and had LED lights on my bicycle.

So, yeah, I do believe that a HID kit upgrade is worth it for every car owner.

If you happen to belong to the group of people who own a house but for whatever reason does not have a garage, or if you have too many cars and you run out of space in your garage, then consider investing in a carport. Steel carports are durable and easy to install by yourself so they would be first on my list if I needed to by a carport. If you do make the decision to purchase a carport, make sure to do your research before buying in order to find the best deal for your money; in addition, buy from a company that has trained and knowledgeable staff that can assist you if necessary.

The US government’s 700 billion dollar bail-out of the country’s financial institutions had little effect in the markets which continued to move down in the last day of trading this week. You’d think that this would prevent people from wasting money on things like cars but I guess it isn’t. If you decide to buy a car in this terrible economy (an it is going to get even worse before it gets better,) then do your research and get the best car you can afford.

For example, try to find the smallest car that will fill your driving needs. Look for a car that is fuel efficient as it doesn’t look like gas prices will go down any time soon or ever again. Check car review magazines and web sites to find cheap cars that are both reliable and safe. Do your research on insurance. Request auto insurance quotes from as many different sources as possible and select the one that provides adequate coverage for the least amount of money.

If you decide to buy a car in an economy that is heading towards a depression, then at least minimize the harm it will do to your finances by doing your research before making your final decision.

Nothing yells America more strongly than a classic muscle car. And nothing says it better than a pimped out Mustang. I have said before that a friend of mine is a car nut and that he spends all his money and time on his car.

He has purchased a myriad of Mustang accessories to improve the look and feel of his loved procession. He has replaced the interior and exterior of his car more than one times. I think he is mostly proud of his Xenon Mustang 3-Piece Rear Spoiler and Borla Stinger S-Type Catback exhaust. And not only does he buy as many accessories as possible for his car but also for himself. Not a day goes by that he does not wear his Mustang sweatshirt, hat, and Sterling Silver Mustang Running Pony Necklace. Needless to say he also keeps his car keys on an authentic Mustang leather key chain.

Sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it. I am not as affectionate about cars as he is but I wish he would spend his money a bit more carefully. He could still have a beautiful car to drive and save some money for future years. But I do like his car!

I wrote a couple of day ago about selling my used car. I managed to get a good deal for it because the car was well maintained even though it had been on the road for 18 years. In general, a car is not an investment and one should never purchase a car for this purpose; always buy the car that will fulfill your driving needs and nothing more. A new car loses its value much faster than a used car so depending on how much driving you want to do, I strongly suggest that you spend your money on a good quality used car.

A used car that is well maintained will retain more of its value for longer which means that if at some point in the future you decide to sell it then you can get most of your money back. So, how to you keep your car in good condition? There are many ways. For example, make sure to take it to the mechanic regularly to have the oil changed and the engine tuned. Also, keep it clean inside and out to prevent rusting of the frame. Purchase a car cover, especially if you are parking your car outside all the time; better yet, given the option, park your car in an underground parking like I did. Sure it will cost you a bit more since you have to pay for parking every month but it might prevent the frame from rusting or some bonehead from crushing into it on the street; good luck selling a car full of rust or one which have been in an accident even if it was not your fault.

Lastly, I suggest that you avoid driving the car for no reason. If your destination is within walking distance then leave your car at home. Other than avoiding unnecessary wear and tear of your vehicle, you get to exercise a bit which has many other health benefits. You are also burning less fossil fuels and you are not contributing to the ever increasing problems of air pollution and global warming.

So, these are a few simple ideas of how to keep your car’s value high so that, if need be, you can sell it at a price that will put a smile on your face.

I recently sold my car which I owned for 4.5 years; the car was a 1991 Honda Civic which I had purchased used. Selling a used car is an interesting experience and I thought I share some of that with you.

The first thing to selling a used car is to figure out what the current market price for the car is. You can get this via official channels such as the little black book or you can survey online buy and sell sites such as Craigslist to get an idea of what other people are selling similar cars for. The price you set for your car will depend on many factors including the current condition of the car, the mileage, extras (CD player, ladder racks, ski rack, etc.) and what kind of repairs you did in the last year. Hopefully you have kept all your receipts for the last few years to show potential buyers that you have taken good care of the car or at least that nothing major will need repair soon. For example, if you recently rebuilt the engine or replaced the transmission or the timing belt, you can request a higher price for your car because these are major components that are expensive to fix and at some point need to be replaced.

Once you decide on a reasonable price for selling your car (that would also be satisfactory to you in terms of how much you would hope to get for your vehicle,) add another 200-300 dollars to it. Buyers always want to bargain with you. They expect that your price is inflated to give you room to bargain and you should play the game or be prepared to make less money than you expect.

Before you post your for sale ad, clean your car inside and out. Wash the car before you take photos for your ad; a nice looking car will attract more buyers even if the price seems a bit too high. Also, clean the inside. Prospective car buyers always want to test drive a car before they buy it. So, make sure that when they get inside, the car looks nice and clean. After you clean the car and take photos (don’t forget to take a photo of the engine if it is in good condition,) you are ready to write your ad.

Keep your ad brief and to the point. Don’t oversell and be truthful. Give the mileage shown on the odometer and list any extras that most people look for such as CD player and radio. If you have recently replaced the tires then mention it in the ad; similarly for any major repairs such as replacing the transmission. Other than that, mention in the end some of the benefits of owning the car, i.e., good for students, very good on gas, and sporty (use these only if they describe your car, of course.) If you are selling a small car such as the Civic that I was selling then emphasize its good performance on gas consumption because current gas prices have many people looking for small, fuel efficient cars for commuting to work on a daily basis.

Now you are ready to post your ad for other to see. I strongly recommend that you start by posting your ad on Craigslist because it is free and has a huge reach. I received 10 calls about my car withing the first 2 hours of posting the ad on Craigslist; 2/3rds of the people who called made an appointment to see the car the next day and one of them bought the car. If you are not having any good luck posting online then consider lowering the price by $100 and waiting for a few more days. Reduce the price every few days until you sell the car.

This is what I learned from selling my car recently. I wish you the best of luck and a high return if you are selling a used car.

The guy driving the pickup truck was fortunate that his trailer carrying the larger truck did not tip over. It could have turned ugly for him and other drivers on the road. He should win the luckiest man on Earth award!

Owning a car is a large expense and a huge hassle. Sometimes, I think that the trouble and expenses associated with car ownership are higher than its benefits. Finding affordable car insurance is one of the most difficult tasks faced by car owners.

Thankfully, CarInsuranceRates.com provides a comprehensive repository for online car insurance information. This well organized site offers a number of informative articles helping consumers to make informed decisions. For example, on this website you can find articles about which cars are hard to insure, how to find the most affordable insurance rates, and a list of the 10 most stolen cars. Other informative articles that I thought were interesting include one that explains the history of car insurance (did you know that car insurance is based on marine insurance invented by the ancient Chinese,) and another that explains how collision claims affect ones insurance rates.

Moreover, a nifty tool on the front page allows visitors to retrieve multiple quotes from insurers nationwide for free and in just a few minutes. This is definitely a resource that should be used by anyone wishing to find affordable auto insurance without much hassle.
