In a traditional marine diesel engine its power is produced by hot compressed air igniting fuel which has been sprayed into the cylinder head under very high pressure. A marine diesel engine does not have a carburetor to mix fuel or air spark plugs to ignite the mixture. Instead, the pistons are used to compress the air to 3000 kPa, which causes it to become extremely hot and the fuel is ignited as soon as it is injected into the cylinder.

Some marine diesel engines are fitted with a glow plug in the pre-combustion chamber of each cylinder or a heater plug in the inlet manifold. These can provide additional heat to the combustion air during the starting process.

Diesel marine engines are slower revving and heavier than gasoline engines but they are also more reliable because they do not have to count on external carburetion or that electrical spark for ignition.

Newer engines use an electronic fuel injection system whereby air and fuel are mixed thoroughly in the pre-combustion chamber before entering the cylinder. This system maximizes power and fuel economy and is a less polluting option.

All boaters should have an understanding about how their engine works so let’s start by looking at the mechanical cycles.

Most reciprocating piston internal combustion engines work on one of two mechanical cyclesóeither the four-stroke cycle or the two-stroke cycle. These cycles designate, in correct sequence, the mechanical actions by which the fuel and air gain access to the engine cylinder, the gas pressure – due to combustion – is converted to power and, finally, the burnt gas is expelled from the engine cylinder.

The Basic Four-Stroke Diesel Engine

From its name, you should understand that there are four strokes in one complete engine cycle. A stroke is the movement of the piston through the full length of the cylinder and, since one such movement causes the crankshaft to rotate half a turn, it follows that there are two crankshaft revolutions in one complete engine cycle.

The four strokes in the order they occur are:

1. Inlet stroke. With the inlet valve open and the exhaust valve closed, the piston moves from top dead center (TDC) to bottom dead center (BDC), creating a low-pressure area in the cylinder. Clean, filtered air rushes through the open inlet valve to relieve this low-pressure area, and the cylinder fills with air.

2. Compression stroke. With both valves closed, the piston moves from BDC to TDC, compressing the air. During the course of this stroke the air becomes heated to a temperature high enough to ignite the fuel.

3. Power stroke. At around TDC, the fuel is injected, or sprayed, into the hot, compressed air, where it ignites, burns and expands. Both valves remain closed, and the pressure on the piston crown forces it down the cylinder from TDC to BDC.

4. Exhaust stroke. At approximately BDC the exhaust valve will open and the piston starts to move from BDC to TDC, driving the burnt gas out of the cylinder through the open exhaust valve.

The Two-Stroke Diesel Engine

The two-stroke engine uses two piston strokes to complete one power stroke and, therefore, it fires twice as often as a four-stroke engine. A two-stroke engine is smaller and simpler with fewer moving parts. A two-stroke engine has the potential to produce twice as much power as a four-stroke engine of the same size, however, because of the extra fitting required in a two-stroke diesel engine, for example blowers and governors, they become more expensive to produce. Recently there has been a move towards four stroke diesel engines which have become more efficient and smaller.

Protect Your Marine Diesel Engine

Avoid idling your marine engine for longer than ten minutes in a no-load state. The engine is often idled to charge the batteries or cool the refrigeration but if done repeatedly it will glaze the bores of the engine and cause premature engine failure. When the vessel is in a berth the engine can be put in gear to create load at idle.

Every boat owner should have some knowledge of basic marine diesel engine maintenance to keep themselves and their families safe while boating.

Nearly 80% of people have back pain, including lower back pain, at some point or another during their life. Since this is a problem which affects nearly everyone, it is important to know what the causes of lower back pain are. It’s important to understand how you can keep severe lower back pain at bay by controlling these factors.

Causes of Lower Back Pain

As we age, we lose a lot of our body’s natural muscle tone and elasticity. We also tend to lose bone strength as we age. Loss of fluid results in the discs in your spine becoming less flexible. This means that they do a less effective job of protecting the vertebrae. Just the fact of getting older can play a part in experiencing lower back pain.

A strain, sprain or spasm in your muscles or ligaments can result in the rupture of a spinal disc. This leads to increased pressure on your spinal cord nerves. Our back lets us know about this with the neural signals we know as pain. What are the causes of these strains, sprains and spasms? Frequently, this type of injury is caused by attempting to lift heavy objects or overstretching the muscles.

Lower back pain can also be caused by diseases like osteoporosis and arthritis. Other causes include disc or joint irritation, viral infections, or spinal abnormalities.

Lifestyle factors can also be contributors to lower back pain. This includes smoking, being overweight, pregnancy, stress, bad posture and being in poor shape. Lower back pain and pain in the hips often appear together, increasing your discomfort. Another cause of lower back pain can be scar tissue from old injuries – this can also lead to further, more critical injuries.

When to Worry About Lower Back Pain

You should take your lower back pain seriously if it comes along with other symptoms. Watch out for weakness in the muscles, particularly in the legs, loss of bowel or bladder control, fever or coughing. If your lower back pain is accompanied by these symptoms, contact your physician immediately. They could point to a deeper problem such as a pinched nerve. If you suffer from diabetes, your back pain might be related to neuropathy.

Avoiding Lower Back Pain

By paying attention to proper back pain management techniques, most lower back pain can be avoided. Recurring lower back pain can usually be traced to poor posture. You can work on correcting this. Try exercises to build up strength in your lower back, stand up straight, and don’t forget to use your legs to lift objects instead of your back. Be certain that you pay attention to workplace ergonomics while on the job. This will greatly impact your ability to prevent lower back pain.

Color contacts are a great way to sharpen and enhance the look of your eyes. Unlike traditional contacts, colored lenses are a great way to show off your contacts, with colors that are completely fun. Wearing color contacts are all about having some fun every once in a while.

All around the world, thousands and thousands of people wear colored lenses. Contact lenses themselves are the best alternative to glasses, with color contacts lenses being the next best thing. Colors add flair and personality to contact lenses, giving people the chance to be different. When you add color to your lenses – you are telling the world that you are different.

You can always find colored lenses that match what you are looking for no matter what color interests you. There are hundreds of different styles available, from kids to adults. You’ll also have several different manufacturers to choose from as well, which makes it easier than ever to get a pair of colored lenses that you can depend on.

Even though colored lenses are popular, there are several people who feel as if they will damage the eyes. Non prescription colored contacts work exactly the same as traditional contacts, and won’t damage your eyes as long as you clean them and take care of them. There shouldn’t be much worry if the contacts are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

Each and every colored contact has the color or design coded on the contact itself. When you wear a pair of these lenses, it is actually the color that has been coded into the contact that projects the colored image everyone sees when they look in your eyes. The color of the contact shines through, making it appear that your eyes are indeed the exact same color as your contacts.

Colored contacts work the same as other types of contacts. Select the color of the contacts that you choose using your prescription. If you are ordering them online, you’ll find hundreds and hundreds of different colors and images. There are more colors and selections available online – making it the best way to invest in your contact lenses.

A nice pair of “leopard looking” lenses will add some flair if you looking for something different. They will give you the vision you need, along with different colored “eyes” that can really mess with someone’s head. Kids love them as well, as they give them the chance to express themselves. From kids to adults – colored contact lenses are the ideal way to be different – and improve your vision at the same time.

The architect is an important person in our everyday lives. Where would you be without him or her? You would be out in the cold without shelter. You would not work inside an office building. They have and always will be an essential part of science, art and technology. They play an integral part in civilization. They are students of art and history. along with being well-versed in mathematics, architects are well-versedin a municipalities building codes. It could ruin your afternoon if the building fell apart while you were inside. Their designs are an integral part in our daily lives.

When a person decides to study architecture, he or she must decide on a specialty. There are a number of areas in architecture to choose from. Interior design, urban, green and landscape architecture are only a few of the many areas in which architects can focus their talents. The educational background is similar for all architects and consists of a broad selection of classes in the arts. It should make sense considering an architect is a talented artist who uses wood, concrete or steel to bring his or her concepts and designs to fruition.

Besides a Bachelor’s degree, the architect is usually expected to go on to receive their Master’s degree. During this extended period of study they are able to concentrate on a particular specialty. During this period, many architects will enter a period of internship programs. Some of these programs will allow the intern to work at several different architectural firms, which broadens their experience. This will help them later when it comes time to choose where they would like to be employed.

While the architect does not need to be an artist, it does help if he or she can appreciate fine art and has a basic concept of how art plays such a vital role in our lives. Throughout history, architecture has played a tremendous role. The pyramids, the Taj Majal and even Mt. Rushmore are testment to architects. There will always be a need for architects in this world.

Once you’ve got your parrot, it will become your immediate family member for a long time, so if you’re really concerned about your parrot, you should be very sure that your parrot gets the best cages you could get.

Seeing how his bird cage will be his home for the most part of his life (unfortunately, leaving even the best trained parrots fly freely through the house poses a real danger to them, or is a potential risk for them to run away), hence choosing the appropriate parrot cages is a very important task

The first criteria of choosing the appropriate parrot cages should obviously be the bird cage’s size. The parrot cages’ size should be directly proportional to the size of the parrot. By sticking a large macaw in a smaller cage will not only make your parrot uncomfortable, but it will in fact affect its health and mood in a negative way, for more obvious reasons.

Despite this, it doesn’t mean that you should get small cages for smaller birds either. Actually, the bigger the cage, the happier the parrot! Of course, your home’s design might not permit getting the largest bird cages out there, but try finding a room that has a lot of space for a parrot cage and place it there rather than on “traditional”, smaller places.

And even if you managed to get the largest of parrot cages in the market, make sure you remember it is still a CAGE. Giving your parrot some freedom to fly around (around the house, making sure all windows or doors are closed) will do tons of good for his liveliness, mood and health. Try keeping an eye for discounts on parrot cages too because this will certainly save you a hell of a money.

While choosing the appropriate parrot cages, the parrot cages’ shape is also another crucial factor. You might have noticed that most traditional cages have a cylindrical shape, having a greater height than their length.

It is very bad for your parrot, since it’s unable to fly around (they can’t fly straight up or straight down, can they?).

Vertical cages have their advantages, allowing the parrots to climb up and down between bars, offering a better compensation for the fact that they can’t fly as freely.

The materials from which the bars and cage door are made of is one very crucial consideration when you’re choosing the appropriate parrot cages. Some bird cages are made of low-quality plastics or toxic metals and since most parrots have the bad habit of chewing everything around them, the negative effects these cages could cause are pretty obvious. Not only that, the quality of bird cages also reflects the atmosphere of your overall home decoration.

Although these are the one of the main parameters you should focus on whenever you’re choosing a parrot cage, you might want to pay more attention to further details, how easily are parrot cages maintained (it depends alot on the material used for the cage), the ability to attach perches and accessories directly to the cage, its bar spacing (you should make sure that your parrot won’t get caught between the bars in case they are too tight) and having a secure door.

The main point is, you should see things from your parrot’s stand point whenever you’re choosing the appropriate parrot cages, try to ask yourself what can you do to make it more comfortable and happy. But make sure you also don’t put a hole on your wallet when you choosing the appropriate parrot cages, it’s best you do a research on the best offers on parrot cages for sale in the market before anything else!

Ski clubs typically offer members access to local and out-of-state ski trips, discount lift tickets, and discounts at local ski shops, as well as the opportunity to meet many like-minded skiers. Many clubs organize a year round schedule of sporting and social events.

No matter where you live, there is a ski club near you. This is true even if you live in a place that does not ever get snowfall! These clubs regularly get together for trips to various mountains, ski areas, and ski resorts. Some are local clubs, meaning that the slopes that they ski on are within driving distance, while others are more national or global, which means that they not only ski locally, if possible, but they also plan ski trips.

When planning your ski vacation contact the group sales department at a ski resort to find out exactly what sort of deals they offer to ski clubs. Typically, a resort will give one lift ticket free for every 15 paying members. Usage of the ski clubs easily accessible slalom courses.

The primary purpose of a ski clubs are to promote the sport of snow skiing, snow boarding, other recreational sports for each season, and to organize lots of regular monthly social activities, for our hundreds of members who enjoy active lifestyles. Primarily a ski club, with more than 20 ski trips a season. Day trips, weekend, and week-long trips. If you are interested in joining ski club and are in our high school during the season, passes are about $400. As we near the holiday season, especially Thanksgiving, our instinct as Americans is to give thanks for all we’ve been given in the previous year. This year has been a challenging and interesting one for the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers and Boarders, and there are so many things for us to be thankful for.

While skiing is what brings these groups together in the first place, it is not necessarily what keeps them together. Their love of a common sport, and their common interests and feeling of community is what keeps them together – and it keeps them skiing together for years and years. If you are a skier, you should definitely consider joining a club. It doesn’t matter – in most cases – what level you are at. Beginners are usually welcomed, and this is a great way for beginners to quickly improve their skills and techniques out on the slopes.

In the midst of all the alternative medicine treatments that you’ve heard about recently, you may have noticed aromatherapy mentioned a few times. Many dismiss the idea of using scents to bring medical results as quackery, and that’s understandable in many ways. There’s quite a bit of information about aromatherapy that comes from people who speak about it based on their spiritual beliefs and a lack of information that comes from detailed medical studies. As a medical treatment in Western nations, it’s still a little new, so there’s still much to learn about it. Let’s explore some of the ways that aromatherapy does help people so you know how to better incorporate it into your life.

As A Medical Practice

The basis of aromatherapy comes from the use of essential oils, which are extracted from plants using distilling processes, resulting in concentrated liquids that are often very fragrant. In France, where aromatherapy is used in concert with traditional medical practices, but it’s for the antiseptic properties of the essential oils more than anything. In France, essential oils are occasionally prescribed and administered by a physician to target harmful organisms that might lead to bacterial, viral, or fungal infections.

If you’re wondering where the “aroma” part of aromatherapy comes in, there are traditional medical practices in the United States in which the scents of various compounds result in an alleviation of symptoms of illness. The one most people are familiar with is the use of things such as Vicks VapoRub or Halls cough drops to help drain clogged sinuses and throats. Aromatic chemicals such as menthol and eucalyptus bring an alleviation of those symptoms, which are often associated with colds.

As Stress Therapy

When you begin to venture out of such applications and begin to talk about alleviating stress with aromatherapy, then you start to get into ideas that come less from observed scientific evidence than from everyday theories. Aromatherapy in many instances is suggested as a way to reduce symptoms of stress in people and for other effects. For instance, basil oil is quite frequently suggested to ease the effects of depression and to help you to concentrate, while lavender is used for relaxation.

While many of these supposed effects aren’t determined through scientific study, it’s easy enough to notice that euphoric scents can make people feel cheerier. With that in mind, it wouldn’t hurt to practice a little aromatherapy at home; at best, it really will help and at worst, you still end up surrounded by nice scents. So, whether you’re using it for medical purposes or just to relax, aromatherapy offers something for you.

Desert Landscaping Plants are Long Lasting

Some believe that you can only have types of desert landscaping plants if you live in the warm and dry southwestern part of the U.S. But they can also thrive in the high deserts of the Pacific Northwest and in most humid tropical areas.

The various varieties of the cacti, with their sharp thorns, have been used as a fence to ward off predatory animals and other uninvited guests. They can also be used to protect a vegetable from animals that enjoy stealing your prized tomatoes. The short and stout “Barrel Cactus” would be very uninviting.

While creating a look using desert landscaping plants, you might find that you have some areas of the property or perhaps a side of the home with lots of shade. Obviously, this would require you to use landscape shade plants, those that will handle the hot and dry climate but also do well growing in shade. Again, the possibilities are tremendous, giving you great coverage and beautiful blooms during the year.

There are numerous desert landscaping plants to pick from. We have provided names and descriptions of just a few of the many desert landscaping and landscape shade plants. You can ask your local nursery for advice of what does exceptionally well in your area.

Agave Americana: The interesting form and the plant’s high tolerance to heat, drought, cold, sun, and even poor soils makes this an ideal all-around plant. The Agave Americana will grow anywhere from one to six feet tall, developing into unique styles of leafs and beautiful colors.

Desert Spoon: This particular plant does best in arid climates and was at one time, used for fiber and food by Native Americans. The plant will grow between five and eight feet high and depending on the exact species, some will produce a bloom topped with red, long plumes that complement the gray green foliage.

The Agave, also known as the “century plant,” because of the legendary flower stalk that is said to only bloom every one hundred years. The truth is that it produces the flower stalk at the end of its life, which can be as long as twenty to thirty five years. They have been grown for fiber for ropes, some for tequila, and some are said to have a delicious meat inside that is very good baked.

Using Landscape Shade Plants in your Desert Garden

The Astilbe, which is also called “Feather Flower,” grows well in the shade and lots of moisture. Because of its feather like flower it complements a cactus or desert garden nicely. The flowers can bloom from early spring to late summer and come in white, ivory purple, pink or red.

The hosta plant is another great shade plant. The large variety available range from some with variegated leaves, solid green, gold or bluish green. They are perennials, returning each year larger than the last.

Liriope Spicata: Another excellent shade plant, this one appears like grass, which is why it is more often referred to as border grass. The flowers are spiked in shape and while in bloom the color changes from white to purple then in the fall, a dark berry grows.

The Foxglove which is better known as a day lily grows well both in the sun and shade. It will produce unusual looking flowers of different colors depending on the species. The Foxglove is a poisonous plant so it should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

If you’ve been investigating anything to do with hypnosis recently, chances are that you’ll have heard about underground hypnosis. But what exactly is it? You’ve obviously worked out that it doesn’t mean practicing hypnosis in a cave. But what kind of hypnotic techniques does it use? Is it legal and ethical to use them on other people? Are underground hypnosis techniques being used on you without your knowledge?

Normally, underground means either little known or it can also refer to a shady or dodgy idea. Naturally, there’s always the risk that underground is merely a marketing ploy, designed to help increase sales!

But with underground hypnosis, it really is a set of techniques that isn’t used all that often. Partly because most people don’t consciously set out to hypnotize others. But mainly because most mainstream hypnotists – the kind you’d visit to cure your phobia of snakes for example – were taught conventionally and don’t know these underground techniques even exist.

Hypnosis is uded in all sorts of different ways. It is often at its best when you don’t even realize you’re being hypnotized, even though the hypnosis is open, even overt. The hypnosis is there, in the open, for anyone to spot. Which is the main reason these underground techniques work so well. Since, in reality, only a well trained hypnotist would notice them being used.

Watch a television commercial with the sound turned off if you want a quick lesson. Notice what the pictures in the advert are telling you versus the words that are used to distract your conscious mind. Sure that car is safe and designed to keep you alive if you got involved in a crash. But the images are showing you wide open roads with the automobile being driven at full throttle. These images go direct to your subconscious’ attention and it then colludes with your conscious mind and the verbal messages in the advert so you can justify buying the car or whatever.

This type of underground hypnosis isn’t confined to television.

Have you ever met someone who nearly always gets their own way? Who wins near enough every argument they get involved in? There’s a big chance they’re using underground hypnotic techniques.

Their spoken words will be full of embedded commands. You’d love to know what they are, wouldn’t you? (That was an example of an embedded command, telling you that you want to find out what embedded commands are).

And that is only the tip of the iceberg. Using underground hypnosis techniques, you can begin to stack the odds in your favor. Heck, it even works when it’s used on teenagers!

It’s well worth learning underground hypnosis so you can get others to do what you want them to do much more often. And, of course, so you can realize when underground hypnotic techniques are being used on you.

How is a parent to know the right time to call their pediatrician for their baby? The infant is unable to tell the parent what is wrong, whether it is nothing more than a runny nose or if it is something more serious. On one hand, the parents do not want to bother their pediatrician if it turns out to be nothing more than a gas bubble in their bellies. But they also do not want to ignore something like an infant’s sudden lack of appetite if this is the precursor to something more serious. Being the parent of a seemingly sick infant can often be an anxious experience.

The initial thing that all new parents need to know is that babies do get sick, similar to kids of any age group. A sick baby does not mean you are a bad parent. In fact, getting a small cold once in a while helps your baby’s developing immune system become stronger. But any cold or sickness can develop into a difficult situation if not kept under control.

When your baby sickens, try to maintain a normal feeding schedule. There is no problem with breast feeding your sick baby. In fact, breast feeding frequently might help your baby get better faster. If you baby is older and is no longer nursing, consider increasing her fluid intake, encouraging your baby to drink water and pure fruit juices.

This goes without saying, but if your child requires emergency care, you should call your doctor or 911 immediately. If your child has uncontrollable bleeding or gets a deep cut, do not try to take care of the situation by yourself. If your child has accidentally ingested any type of poisoning, call your doctor or 911 immediately. Seizures and unresponsiveness are also reasons to get urgent help for your child.

Very often a fever is the initial sign you get when you baby is sick. If the fever is above 102 in a baby, you should call the doctor. A higher fever does not mean your baby is necessarily dangerously sick, but your baby’s doctor should know, so that he can advise you on treatment. Another indication that your baby needs to be seen is a sudden, drastic change in appetite. A good rule of thumb is if your baby skips two meals in a row, they need to go to the pediatrician.

Assessing your baby’s mood is another way to determine if they are sick enough to go to the doctor. Of course, a sick baby is not going to be her normal joyful self, but if your baby becomes completely inconsolable, call the doctor. Crying that lasts longer than three hours is a good sign that something more serious is wrong.

Diarrhea that lasts for six or more diapers in a row is a sign of illness, and can lead to dehydration. The same goes for vomiting. It is important to know the difference between vomiting and spitting up. Most babies will spit up, and sometimes they spit up quite a lot of substance, but vomit will be forceful and projectile. As with diarrhea, excessive vomiting can lead to dehydration.

Pediatricians get paid a lot of money. As a parent, a lot of this money has come from you. Do not be afraid to call them if you feel that something is not right with your child. As long as you are polite, they will understand your concern and they can simply tell you what your course of action should be based on your child’s symptoms. It is never a good idea to “wait” just because you feel anxious or embarrassed. Your child’s life and well-being are much more important that the way you appear to others.
