These treatments work by limiting the production of sebum in the skin. Hormone controlling treatments can be used more aggressively for really bad cases of acne. For example, your doctor may prescribe the use of Isotretinoin which can work really well but have some bad side-effects if used over long periods of time; more specifically, prolonged use of Isotretinoin can reduce the density of minerals in bones, cause birth defects, and violent behavior. Never take such medication without talking to a dermatologist first!
