Online spam: It is reaching levels of insanity

We all have to deal with spam every day that we go online. There is spam in our email, social news websites, social networking sites (such as MySpace and Facebook,) comment spam, video spam, and even spam in the search engines (how many times did you search for something on Google just so that you get a result that takes you to a site full of spam and computer viruses trying to take over your computer and steal your data and identity?)
The kinds of spam that we receive is changing all the time. We get spam about cheap viagra, replica watches, cheap software, inheritance money from some prince in Nigeria, pills to make our member larger than life, online poker and sports betting, i.e., gambling, pyramid schemes that promise us a free iPod, iPhone, PS3, etc. if we spam all our friends and family, and so on.
Over the years, software companies have been able to create software that detects a large percentage of spam such that we never see it unless we chose to. Regardless and depending on how active you are online, there is no program that can detect and eliminate all such malicious and annoying advertising with 100% accuracy.
It is unfortunate that the Internet which has made it possible for people from across the world to connect and share ideas has also been abused so much. A few bad apples are ruining this magnificent tool for the rest of us who want to use it as a communication and collaboration tool as it was meant to be from the beginning. Here is hoping.
