Crystal Cathedral megachurchAre there any Megachurches in your area? If you do not know the definition of a Megachurch, it would be quite difficult for you to answer this question. Generally speaking, a Megachurch is one that attracts more than 2,000 worshippers per service. As you can imagine, this is quite the service as many smaller churches have a difficult time breaking more than 100 visitors.

Although most Megachurches are located in the United States, this trend has more or less moved into other parts of the world as well. In fact, South Korea is home to many of the largest Protestant Megachurches in the world.

As you can imagine, many changes have to be made for Megachurches. Not only does this hold with the service itself, but also in the way that all of the worshippers are accommodated. After all, it can be quite difficult for a church of normal size to hold more than 2,000 visitors. For this reason, spaces are often times expanded, sound and video added, and theater style seating used instead of pews.

All in all, there are both pros and cons of Megachurches. Many people are against these because they feel that they steal members and take away from the smaller churches in the area. But with that being said, every worshipper has the right to choose what type of church they attend. For now, it is safe to say that Megachurches are on the rise.
