Time to buy a new laptop

I’m thinking that it might be time to buy a new laptop to replace my trusty DELL 700m which has served me well for the last 3.5 years. The computer still runs well. I have never had any problems with it. Unfortunately, it has started to show its age. My INSPIRON 700m only has 500MB of RAM and a relative small HD (by today’s standards, anyways.) I am literally down to the last 1GB of free space on my HD and there is nothing I can do to free more space since all the software and data that I have I need.

The big question that I have to answer now is what computer to buy next. So far, I have been very happy with DELL and I am inclined to go back to them. On the other hand, I am really thinking hard about getting a Tablet PC. DELL makes such a computer (the Latitude XT) but it happens to be one of the most expensive ones in the market. So, if I want a tablet, I should look elsewhere. I still haven’t decided how much money I am willing to spend either. And then there is also the Apple option. I happen to be a huge supporter of UNIX-type systems (in fact, I am mostly using a copy of SUSE, I.e., Linux, on my 700m along with Windows XP) and as such I may be willing to spend a bit more money for an OS X based computer.

I don’t have to make a decision immediately. I think I have 2-3 months before I have to go out and buy a computer. Part of the reason is because I want to save some money for the new machine but also maximize my usage of my current laptop.
