Keeping up with the newest technology advances is expensive

I have been messing around with computers for about 15 years now. It has always been difficult to keep up with the advances in computers over the years. Faster computers are introduced faster than you can say “computer” and by the time your new machines is out of the store a new one is advertised on TV. And of course, all the software soon no longer runs on your less than a year old computer forcing you to go spend another $1000 on upgrades. It is hard keeping up with the computer industry.
At the same time, the same seems to be happening in all sectors of electronics. It seems like every year there are newer and better TVs, new portable music players, new DVD players, new GPS navigation gadgets, new mobile phones, and the list goes on for what seems to be forever.
It often seems like one needs a second job just to keep up with the electronics industry. I’ve just given up. I am typing this on a 3-year laptop which I plan to continue using for at least another 3 years unless it dies on me before that. When it comes to TV, I have completely removed it from my life and just watch the occasional show online (legally.) I also watch DVDs on my computer so I don’t have a need for a specialized DVD players. Sooner than later all movies will be available as digital downloads online so I don’t think that “investing” in the new Blu-Ray systems will be worth it either. I haven’t bothered to buy an MP3 player because to be honest I no longer have time to listen to music like I used to do when I was younger and practically attached to my portable CD music player.
In conclusion, I have given up trying to keep up with technology and figured out a way to get all my needs satisfied with a single portable computer and a decent size LCD screen. I feel sorry for those still bleeding money daily trying to keep up with the dizzying pace of the electronics industry.
