Cheap portable backup storage

I was in big need to backup some of my data on a portable storage device because I am moving and it is not possible for me to take my workstation with. So, I started looking for the different devices available to me.
The first option is to burn a DVD with my data. DVDs have lots of storage space and I could easily fit all my data on a single disc. The problem is that there are many different types of DVD not all of which are readable by all DVD players. There are DVD-, DVD+, DVD-R, and DVD-RW to name a few. Then of course, transporting a DVD is a bit of a hassle. It is not a very compact design, not to mention the need for a jewel case to prevent it from getting scratched.
Another option is to purchase an external HD with a USB interface. These are good for transporting large amounts of data and usually come in relatively compact sizes. One problem for me is that I don’t really need to backup 250GB of data so spending $200 for an external HD is a waste of money.
The last option is to get a USB Flash drive. These drives are small both in size and weight. They also have good capacity at an affordable price. I thought that this was the best buy for my needs and so I went out and purchased a 4GB USB drive for $19.99. It has more than enough space to hold all my data and it only weighs 5 grams. It is also so small that I can attach it to my key chain and take it with me with zero hassle.
So, if you are looking for cheap portable storage that has decent capacity, you should consider investing in a USB Flash drive.
