Affordable wedding ideas

Okay, I have to admit that this post is not so much about how to have an affordable wedding as the title suggests but rather how to spend your wedding budget in a way that makes sense. You see the problem is that most wedding ceremonies and the party that follows are a complete and total waste of money. Couples spend at least 20 thousand dollars to pay for this half day event; most of the money goes to pay for the party after the wedding. I was recently thinking that a couple is better off spending the money on a down payment for a new house than to cater to a bunch of people most of whom they don’t like to begin with. Alternatively, the money could be invested in mutual funds or government bonds. After 30-40 years this small amount of money will help to make retirement free of money worries.

If making plans for 30 years in the future is something that you don’t like to do, then consider the more exciting alternative of getting married in Las Vegas. Book yourself and your bride in a nice Vegas hotel and get married locally, Afterwards, take your thousands of dollars which you would have wasted to feed relatives and friends and spend it in one of the many casinos. Chances are that at the end of the day you are going to have no money left but at least in Vegas you have a small chance of becoming a millionaire!
