An Illiterate teacher

I know that you read the title for this post and you probably thought that there is something more to it than the literal meaning of the words. Well, let me tell you that there is nothing more. The title states a (very surprising) fact.

A man who could not read until he was over 45-years old, he managed to finish high school and college and even work as a high school teacher for 17 years. And before I forget, his college degree was a bachelor’s in education!

I can believe that he finished high school by cheating but to actually finish a bachelor’s degree without even being able to read? That is just incredible. Even though he went to college on an athletic scholarship this is the first time I hear of someone getting this far in the educational system by cheating. He managed to graduate with a bachelor’s degree and get a teaching position. It is amazing that during all these years, he only tried to learn how to read and write much later in his life. You’d think that after being given a position to teach, he would have taken the time to learn the most important skill in the history of all time. I mean, he was teaching for 17 years for crying out loud.
