When it comes down to it, if you are an American you should register to vote. The fact of the matter is that your vote does count no matter what some people believe. If you do not vote in both local and national elections, you are not doing your country in favors. Remember, it is up to the people to decide who they want in office; this is one of the biggest benefits of living in the United States. Think about it this way: what would the US be if everybody decided that voting was not worth their time. It is safe to say that this would lead to many problems.

Of course, you need to know what you are doing when voting. Sure, you could simply pull the first lever that you see upon entering the voting booth, but that would not be the right thing to do. Instead, you should pay close attention to the elections that are taking place so that you can make the right decision on who to vote for. Remember, you are responsible in choosing who you vote for. This is a big responsibility, and one that you should take seriously.

All in all, you can help your country by voting in both local and national elections. Sure, it may take some time to learn about the candidates, but again, this is a great way to better the US. The more people who take politics seriously, the better off the country will be in the long run.
