Femisapien: a female robot toy

By Alpha • Jan 7th, 2008 • Category: Technology

The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics blog is reporting on a new female robot toy from WowWee designed to appeal to girls. The robot is called Femisapien and it is an upgrade of the popular Robosapien series of WowWee robots. Femisapien is a two-legged robot (see photo at the end of the post) designed to have very fluid motions and respond to environmental stimuli. This must be the first time that a company creates a robot to directly target the female market. The Press Release explains how cool Femisapien is going to be when it hits the market later this year,

The Femisapien robot, a sophisticated humanoid interactive friend with distinctly fluid movements, features elegant gestures and dance moves controlled only by her 4-way joystick hands. She also features infrared, audio, and tilt sensors that enable her to synchronize her dance moves to music. The Femisapien robot even speaks her own language of emotive sounds — and responds to users’ gestures, touch and sound.

The company also makes the RoboControl which is a universal remote control that can be used to control any of the company’s many robots including the Femisapien, of course.
