Ron Paul’s November 5th online donation drive

Ron PaulRonald Ernest Paul or Ron Paul is a member of the US House of Representatives and a Republican United states congressman. He is also a 2008 US Presidential candidate.

Ron Paul’s Presidential campaign platform is based on his objection to the Iraq war, the ending of the income tax, free trade and the abolition of the federal reserve among many others.

Ron Paul’s one day fundraising campaign on 5th November 2007 broke all existing records in the United States history with over 4.3 million dollars were collected in a single day. This easily surpasses the previous record of 2.7 million dollars set by John Kerry in 2004. The kind of support and response that Dr. Ron (he is a physician) and his supporters got was enormous and is a big boost to his election campaign. This sparks belief that this time around Ron Paul will win the US presidential elections; he had previously attempted to become President of the US in 1988 when he finished third behind George W. Bush senior and Michael Dukakis; Ron Paul run as a Libertarian but still registered with the Conservative party (I know it sounds weird but he did.)

The date of the online fund raising drive mentioned above is significant in itself. November 5th is the date marked by the Gunpowder Plot in England. The event that took place in 1605 included a number of Roman Catholics (then a minority in England) who conspired to blow up the Houses of Parliament. They never succeeded but the event is still celebrated by some people as a brave stance against the loss of liberty.

Ron Paul’s message of freedom, peace and power reached millions of people across US and his dreams of free markets, stronger defense system and increasing the power of American entrepreneurship may be materialized after the upcoming elections; assuming that his online popularity will translate to real votes.
