Stephen Colbert’s Presidential campaign

Stephen ColbertStephen Colbert is an American comedian and actor. He is the host of the popular comedy half-hour show The Colbert Report on Comedy Central. In 2007, he published the book titled I Am America (And So Can You!) which he claims to have dictated and not written. Stephen had success in every field ventured in. But his dream of participating in the US presidential elections is still luring him.

In the month of October 2007, Stephen Colbert announced that he would be participating in the US Presidential elections from his home State of South Carolina. In a twist reminiscent of the movie “Man of the Year,” Colbert hinted that he will announce his decision to run for the position of the US President during an appearance at the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He confirmed the start of his campaign right after during a segment of his own show.

He claimed to be the first person to run as a Democrat and Republican. However, he had to reconsider his decision because he was rejected by the Democratic Party and couldn’t get a chance to participate from South Carolina. He could have participated from the Republican Party; Stephen himself blew that offer by making funny statements in the public; mostly proof that this was just a publicity stunt to increase the popularity of his show.

Colbert’s campaign is considered as a joke by many people and many think that he was not at all serious about his political career. True to his TV character, Colbert’s short-lived campaign was different when compared to traditional politicians filled with satire. Colbert has great fan support on the Internet through the social networking communities and his show is watched by a large audience. Colbert put an end to his campaign on November 5th.
