Living Biblically

Atheists have already figured out that the Bible is no longer relevant and completely outdated. Yet, millions of people continue to take it literally and try to live their lives accordingly. The truth is that most people only interpret parts of the Bible literally whether they admit it or not. The proof is in A. J. Jacobs’ book “The year of living Biblically.”
You see, Jacobs decided to follow the word of God as given to man in the Bible for a whole year. That would be following all the rules as outlined in the good book. This includes stoning adulterers and avoiding lying and gossiping. When it comes to the interaction with women, Jacobs notes in a recent interview printed in Maclean’s magazine,
If you really follow the Bible strictly, it says that you cannot even sit on a seat where a menstruating woman has sat. This presented a little problem: all the subway seats and restaurant seats are likely impure, so I had to bu a portable chair, one of those things that’s usually intended for elderly people, and take it with me everywhere I went.
Other crazy things he had to do was to always dress in white, grow a beard, keep his hair oily, and make sure that none of his clothes had mixed fibers (apparently, he had an Orthodox Jew inspect his clothes to make sure!)
Now, where I’m getting at is that most people don’t really follow take the Bible literally and I bet most people don’t even take it seriously even though they don’t admit as much publicly. Except for the Islam fundamentalists, of course, who are taking their plagiarized version of the Bible literally and can’t wait to blow themselves up for any occasion that will hasten their passing from this life into heaven and the waiting bosoms of their allocated virgins.
