Knowledge is power

I have seen many parodies of this performance but it was only through the magic of YouTube that I finally saw the original rendition of Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be a Long, Long Time) by no other than Star Trek’s Captain Kirk. Elton John and Bernie Taupin composed the song belonging in the soft rock genre back in 1972. During the 1978 science fiction film awards, William Shatner introduced by Taupin nonetheless made the song his own with his incredible performance utilizing “chromakey video techniques to portray simultaneously three different facets of the Rocket Man’s character” (Wikipedia). The performance has generated a cult following and as I said earlier, it has been parodied in many popular TV shows such as Futurama and Family Guy. But words are cheap and do no justice to Shatner’s performance so here is the video,
