The parking meter you will hate

The Vancouver-based company Photo Violation Technologies is determined to create a parking meter that you are very likely to hate; in the least, it might become one of the most annoying devices that you ever had the displeasure of interacting with.
First of all, cities make tons of money charging people by the minute for the privilege of parking in the downtown core. Most city drivers will end up getting ticketed for not paying their parking fees more than once in their lifetime. Most of us, don’t really bother paying these fees since we all figured that we should be allowed to park in areas that are paid for by our taxes in the first place. At any rate, ignoring or contesting a parking ticket can get you off the hook. especially if you are convincing in front of the judge, and we like that; it makes our lives interesting as we try to fight the legal system and get some kicks out of it.
Photo Violating Technologies wants to change all that with their new Photo Violation Meter. First of all, this evil device will accept payment via a credit card making it impossible to excuse yourself from paying because you can’t find enough coins under the seat of your car. But not only that, this parking meter will actually call your cell phone number to remind you when your time is expiring in order to encourage you to pay more; and since they already have your credit card information, they make it easy to pay more with the push of a button on your cell phone.
Finally, the biggest insult to all of us. As if we are not already living in what can be perceived a a big brother society (smile, you are on a government camera,) the Photo Violations Meter will live up to its name and snap a photo of your license plate so that you can be hunted down and made to pay the ridiculous fees associated with not paying for city parking.
The meter is currently undergoing trials in Niagara Falls, San Francisco, and Vancouver.
I would like to end this post by saying, “Fuck!”
