What has become of Entertainment News

It seems to me that, entertainment news has become nothing more than a dirty closet, this kind of news use to report what stars were going to be in upcoming movies, and following the stars to other countries or exotic locations (with the exception of the Enquirer) were to determine if they were shooting a movie or not. Now following stars at any kind of event (with the exception of People Magazine) is to add fuel to the fire.
You can’t turn on a television now without some kind of “entertainment news” outlet, the fact that these people can now command a half-hour to an hour show about the stars and what little secrets we can find out is just an abuse of power. How much more damage can be done to Britney Spears? Here is someone who we have literally watched grow up under media scrutiny, so now you say so what? But think, if you had in a sense unlimited resources, no supervision, and everyone telling you that your the greatest from the age of 18-24, what would you be like? This girl now apparently just wants to live her life and still she is photographed and made to be the lead story of what appears to be an ongoing assault by the media, with the exception of Lindsey Lohan, who again although is still in showbiz is obviously going through some real problems, problems that we all face, except there problems are revealed for all to see. A few months back on CNN, a reporter finally said enough, she refused to do a Paris Hilton story which was the lead story, she claimed it was not news and actually shredded the story on camera, only to have the news story put back in front of her at least two more times, and each time she shredded the document.
I would almost say that the media has made us, when we wear T-shirts, and set-up camps in front of jail houses to say free Paris Hilton from jail, this is not a good sign. I’m sure the people at MADD (Mother’s against Drunk Driving) would love to know the support we give to our stars even when the commit crimes that are potentially serious. However, this brings up the question as to when does real reporting begin and tabloid, rumor mill, gossip or down right mean spirited-career ruining entertainment news end. It would seem to me that we know it when we hear it, anyone who drinks and drives for example, the news has always reported on or about, however, reporting about the latest sex tape of the stars is not news and has gotten out of control (I personally blame Rob Lowe). However, although the media can take some of the blame, they can’t take all, we have to be responsible and finally say enough!
