Making money online is all the craze these days. There are many different ways to tap into the money making machine that is the World Wide Web. The cost of entry for an online venture is literally zero. However, if you have some money to invest, then starting a Web 2.0 business is actually pretty cheap. Web entrepreneur, Guy Kawasaki started Truemors.com for a mere $12,000 investment.

So, here is my list of the top 5 ways to make money online,

  1. Start a niche blog using a free hosting service such as blogger.com, wordpress.com or typepad.com. Monetize the blog by displaying contextual ads such as Google AdSense or by promoting eBay auctions using AuctionAds. Additionally, you can get paid for product reviews by websites such as PayPerPost and ReviewMe.
  2. Sell your services as a copyrighter or ghost writer on webmaster forums such as on DigitalPoint and SitePoint.
  3. Participate in revenue sharing forums where you get a cut of the forum’s advertising revenue for just participating in the discussions.
  4. Sign up to take online surveys that pay several dollars for your opinion. This will not generate a full-time income that will allow you to quit your day job, but it can produce 50-150 dollars of residual income a month that you can invest towards your retirement budget.
  5. Become an affiliate marketer promoting products using Pay Per Click advertising networks such as Google AdWords and Yahoo! Search Marketing. It take some time and effort to learn how to do this effectively but once you learn how to do the proper keyword research, the sky is the limit in terms of profit making.

This is just a sort list of ways to make money online. The truth is that there are far more opportunities that I have listed here. The choices that I have presented are just the different ways that I have find successful in my online adventures. If you are a freelance computer programmer or graphics designer then you can also find lots of work via services such as Elance.com.
