The small city of Roswell, New Mexico, has earned worldwide fame since it is said that a UFO crashed there back in July 1947. The city has become a tourist attraction for UFO believers even holding an annual UFO summer festival. The city’s International UFO Museum and Research Center has welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors since it opened in 1992. Now, city officials and entrepreneurs are planning the first alien theme park to be hosted in Roswell. The Alien Apex Resort as the UFO-themed park is currently nicknamed, is expected to cover an area 24-32 hectares although it could grow to be twice as large. The park will feature an alien abduction roller coaster and an exhibit hall with information on scientific exploration of the universe among other attractions. The park is scheduled to open in 2010 and currently it is in the initial design stages including the search for investors. The park’s exact location has not been established yet but several locations withing the limits of the city of Roswell are under consideration. The Alien Apex Resort will give visitors to the city of 50,000 one more reason to return other than the hope of meeting E.T. of course.
