Sprint your way to bigger muscles

Squeeze in a quicky to build more muscle. Researchers at A.T. Still University, in Arizona, found that running wind sprints between weight workouts can boost your lifting performance. “Both forms of exercise train the same energy system,” says study author Matthew Rhea, Ph.D. So sprinting conditions your muscles and cardiovascular system in a manner similar to that of weight training. This, in turn, improves your “work capacity,” i.e., the ability to complete more sets and reps before fatigue sets in. Give it a try: Run at your top speed for 15 seconds then rest for 1 minute before your next sprint. Aim to do six sprints twice a week on days that you don’t lift.
